Forgetting (1993)

Forgetting (1993) is a constellation of sound portraits, a meeting place, a score. I asked members of my family and close relatives to silently remember their experience of Mexico City during the year 1993. By recording the sound that encapsulates the conditions of remembering, I ask myself a series of questions: how is collective intimacy interweaved with a sociopolitical soundscape? When we remember in silence, are the conditions of space affecting the way we revive the past? What does the practice of remembering produce? Is there value in forgetfulness?

There are some memories that constitute an experience of memory without the experience of experience. —Salvador Elizondo.
