Land Waste The is an ongoing project that I started April 2nd, 2016. I have been developing an extensive body of work that includes sound, photography, video, and text. The basis of this project is to deconstruct and disembody the symbol of The Waste Land, to dissolve its patriarchal resonance and rethink the failure of modernity through the exploration of a feminist perspective of the poem.
T.S Eliot’s iconic poem was transcribed, printed, and left in different parts of the landscape of Mexico’s countryside. I visited these spaces as a form of ritual once a month during the year and recorded in video and photography the text’s stage of transformation. The one year gesture aims at eroding the symbolism of the poem’s modernist hymn through a material transformation to open new possibilities of meaning.
